The City of Karratha has joined an initiative that helps Consultants deliver information about new infrastructure assets as digital data to Local Government Asset Owners and Managers.
The A-SPEC program incorporates standards and process ensuring that information about new and changed assets is provided in a format that is ready to be ingested into organisation’s mission critical systems of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Asset Management Systems. This will support Asset Owners and Managers in Local Governments, Utility companies, and Water Authorities around Australia handle, analyse and share the data easily.
The main goal of A-SPEC is to make it simpler for all parties involved to receive, process, and store data about new infrastructure projects, whether they come from subdivision developments or internal projects like Capital Works. This data is then integrated into GIS and Asset Registers for better management.
In turn the process will increase the efficiency of information management and result in greater customer satisfaction when dealing with enquiries from engineering contractors, consultants, surveyors, developers and prospective residents. In addition to this, it aims to:
- Eliminate duplication of effort.
- Improve process efficiency.
- Improve customer service to both internal and external customers of asset information.
- Improve quality of asset data and data handover processes.
- Comply with statutory obligations (e.g. Auditor-General) and compliance requirements.
- Provide structure for the consistent recording of all the City of Karratha’s assets.
- Ultimately manage assets better to reduce the volume of ongoing maintenance and capital works costs.
