Beach Emergency Numbers (BEN) Sign Program

The City of Karratha has received funding from the State Government to install Beach Emergency Number (BEN) signs as part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development's BEN grants program. This coding system aims to enhance emergency response times by marking public beach access points with unique codes. A total of 46 locations have been identified to assist emergency services in quickly locating incidents.

These signs provide specific location information, which is crucial for emergency services when responding to shark sightings, attacks, or other beach emergencies.

When to reference BEN signs unique codes:

  • When reporting shark sightings to Water Police on 9442 8600
  • When reporting crocodile sightings and other issues to City of Karratha Ranger Services on 9186 8555
