The City will be looking at alternative sites for a tourist park following the outcome of the Dampier Tourist Park Feasibility Study.
The study found there was the need for more tourist park style accommodation in the City of Karratha over the next 10 years.
However, while a Tourist Park in Dampier was feasible, the proposed site would not adequately address tourism accommodation demand so the City will continue its works to investigate alternative locations for a large scale tourism facility.
The City of Karratha will continue to optimise the appeal of Dampier exploring different ways to encourage local economic activity, support local business and progress the Dampier Masterplan.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the City wanted to optimise the appeal of Dampier as a great place to stay and visit.
“Our officers will continue to investigate suitable sites for large scale tourist park accommodation,” Cr Scott said.
“Dampier is a beautiful location, and we want to enhance the unique characteristics of the townsite and solidify Dampier as one of the region’s most desirable places to live and visit.
“We will continue to consult with locals to discuss the future needs of community facilities as part of our efforts to progress the Dampier masterplan and maximise the tourism potential of Dampier.”
