City of Karratha, Bechtel, and MCS team up for National Tree Day

To celebrate National Tree Day, the City with support from Bechtel and local business, Mobile Concreting Solutions (MCS) will plant more than 270 trees in Karratha.

The project forms part of the City of Karratha’s Street Tree Program with Bechtel and MCS providing $200,000 in sponsorship, accelerating the City’s program by almost 10 years.

The program aims to reduce urban heat, provide a shaded green link throughout Karratha, and promote the use of footpaths.

The funds will secure an estimated 276 trees which will be planted at four sites along Bathgate Road, Bayview Road, and Dampier Highway.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said it was fantastic to receive support from Bechtel and MCS for the Street Tree Program.

“Our Street Tree Program helps to provide shade throughout Karratha and reduce heat in our City,” Cr Scott said.

“I’d like to thank Bechtel and MCS for their donation which will see more than 270 trees planted in four locations.

“This will help encourage residents to use our footpaths as well as enhancing the beauty of our townsite.”
Terry Klowss, Bechtel’s Site Manager for Pluto Train 2 said “When we were looking for an initiative in the community to contribute to, we couldn’t go past the City’s plans for greening Karratha.

“We are incredibly proud to support this tree planting program. At Bechtel, it’s our promise to leave behind a positive legacy in the communities where we operate. We hope the program will create a greener, healthier environment for future generations.”

Ryan Sweeney, MCS Director and a resident of the area for 14 years, stated, "We are excited to be a contributor to this campaign. Our commitment to environmental sustainability is at the core of our values, and through this initiative, we aim to make a significant positive impact on our City.”
