Community shares priorities with Council with record number of survey respondents

The City of Karratha’s 2024 Annual Community Survey is complete, with feedback from residents highlighting key priorities for Council over the next 12 months.

Conducted annually since 2012, the survey invites residents to rate the performance and importance of service areas and facilities the City provides. It also asks residents to rank priorities for the following year.

The City received 2,075 completed responses to the 2024 Annual Community Survey, representing a 228% increase in participation and achieved an overall satisfaction score of 75.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said it was fantastic to see so many residents take part in the survey.

“The City received the highest amount of submissions since the surveys inception in 2012, and received our second highest overall score,” Cr Scott said.

“The feedback has been very positive, with Seventy-one per cent of respondents said the City is a good or excellent place to live, and all City of Karratha services and facilities achieving a performance score above 65 per cent.”

The top three City services that performed above community expectations were:
1.    Graffiti removal
2.    Tracks & trails
3.    Footpaths and Cycleways

Service areas that require improvement were identified as:
1.    Community Engagement Activities 
2.    Financial Management
3.    Prevention of Illegal Dumping

The top three City facilities that performed above community expectations were:
1.    Libraries
2.    Rd Earth Arts Precinct
3.    Karratha Tourism and Visitors Centre

There thee facilities that performed below community expectations in the past two years:
1.    Karratha Airport Terminal
2.    Public toilets
3.    Karratha Leisureplex
The survey also asked residents to rate a number of liveability factors such as safety, security and policing, access to health services and cost of living.  

The top three most important things for the City to focus on were identified as:
1.    Cost of Living
2.    Housing
3.    Health services

The survey also asked residents to rate a number of liveability factors such as housing, access to medical services and cost of living that aren’t the direct responsibility of the City but assist with advocacy efforts.

“While liveability issues are not the direct responsibility of the City, we recognise these issues are important to our community,” Cr Scott said.

“The information received from the survey will help support us in our advocacy works to create a more liveable Karratha.”
