The City has completed an Aged Care Needs Analysis as part of its efforts to improve the liveability of Karratha for seniors.
Council adopted the Age Friendly Strategy 2021 – 2026 in August 2021, following consultation with senior residents, industry stakeholders, service providers and local clubs and community groups.
One of the initiatives identified in the strategy following consultation was to conduct a needs analysis study, with this project running from December 2022 to May last year.
The project was undertaken to document the current and future needs of the senior population concerning Aged Care services, accommodation and infrastructure.
The study proposes five key actions to be delivered, including establishing a Health and Aged Care Workforce Taskforce to support attracting, recruiting, retaining, and developing staff and an Aged Care Community Group to advocate for opportunities to improve the liveability of Karratha for seniors.
Other actions involve the City working collaboratively with other stakeholders to improve housing choices our older population.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the proposed actions will be integrated into a planned review of the Age Friendly Strategy in 2024.
