The King’s Birthday long weekend will remain on FeNaclNG weekend for the next three years.
The Council's decision aligns with the Public and Bank Holidays Act 1997, allowing local governments to choose an alternative date for the King's Birthday holiday for three-year cycles.
The City held a public survey with 393 responses received, and close to 80 per cent of respondents in favour of keeping the public holiday on the first Monday in August.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said since at least 1996 the Reigning Sovereign’s Birthday public holiday has been celebrated on the first Monday in August to coincide with the FeNaClNG Festival.
“Although the review is a legislative requirement, I'm really glad that the date will stay the same,” Cr Scott said.
“This will help festival organisers, stall holders, community groups, and businesses plan ahead for the next three years.”
