Nominations for Environmental Sustainability Advisory Group now open

Environmentally conscious community members are encouraged to nominate  to join the Citys Environment Sustainability Advisory Group following a Council review of the group.

Established in 2016, the first Environment and Sustainability Advisory Group provided feedback and recommendations to the City on environment and sustainability matters.

These matters included the draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy, the City’s approach to weed and waste management initiatives, the ClimateClever Community Sustainability Platform, maintenance and protection of the Yaburara Trail and the City’s involvement with energy projects.

The City has conducted a review of the groups  terms of reference and refined its purpose to advise to the City on the preparation, implementation and review of the City’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

As part of the review, the Terms of Reference have been updated.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the Environment and Sustainability Advisory Group had been involved in several large projects since it was established.

“The group will provide council with advice on the preparation, implementation and review of the City’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy,” Cr Scott said.

“Over the years this group has provided council advice on a range of large projects and I urge residents interested in sustainability and the environment to apply to join.

“This is a great opportunity for community members who are passionate to provide feedback and provide advice on the implementation of projects in the sustainability strategy,.”

To apply, email enquiries@karratha.wa.gov.au or send a letter to City of Karratha, P.O. Box 219, KARRATHA WA 6714 by 12pm midday Monday 16 September 2024.
