Election Promotional Material

The City supports advertising to raise voter awareness and to encourage a high level of participation in the election.

Candidates are not permitted to use the City of Karratha logo or branding for promotional purposes during the election period. The City of Karratha must remain impartial and cannot be seen to be providing an endorsement to any candidate.

Candidates who use the City of Karratha logo or branding for promotional purposes will be required to remove any such material from circulation at their own cost. 

Election Signage 

The City has developed DR-08 Signs on Public Land Policy to guide how to apply for, and where electoral signage can be installed within the City of Karratha.

Any advertising in public places and thoroughfares requires a permit from the City of Karratha beforehand. All advertising material requires the name and address of printer.  

Signage that does not have a permit, is considered a safety hazard or is installed in contravention of the policy will be removed by Ranger Services and will be available for collection by the candidate at the City of Karratha’s Operation Centre on Cowle Road in the Karratha Industrial Estate.

Electoral Gifts 

Any donation worth $300 or more, given or promised within 6 months before election day, must be disclosed.

This includes:

  • Cash or non-cash items.
  • Discounted goods or services.
  • Free or discounted travel.
  • Free professional services.
  • Promises to provide gifts in future.

Disclosure is not required for gifts from relatives, wills, unrelated items, and volunteer labour.

  • Disclosure must be made to the City of Karratha CEO as follows:
  • Candidates must report all gifts received before and after nomination within 3 days of receipt.
  • Donors must also report gifts over $300.
  • Gifts from anonymous or unidentifiable donors must be handed to the City of Karratha CEO.

Disclosure must include:

  • Name of candidate and donor.
  • Donor’s address.
  • Date, value, and description of the gift.

The reporting period ends:

  • 3 days after election day (for unsuccessful candidates), or
  • On the financial interest return date (for elected members)
