Community Celebration to commemorate Harmony Week

Karratha’s multicultural community will be celebrated and showcased during this year’s Harmony Week.

Running from 17-23 March, Harmony Week is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism and the successful integration of migrants into our Pilbara community.

This year, the week has one clear and simple message, everyone belongs.

The City will be hosting a free community event on Saturday 22 March from 6pm – 8pm at The Quarter.

The event will have food vans, free children’s cultural activities, live performances from local cultural groups and fun traditional games.

A special Harmony Week Story Time will also be held at REAP library on Saturday between 10am and midday.

This special event will feature storytelling from a variety of cultural backgrounds including Colombia, East Timor, Indonesia, Fiji, Malaysia, and Nigeria.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said Karratha’s community had a diverse and proud culture.

“I encourage everyone to come together, experience our diverse community and celebrate what makes Karratha great,” Cr Scott said.

“Our Harmony Week event will feature local performances from the Northwest Multicultural Association WA Inc, Millars Well Primary School Choir and a host of other great activities.”
