A plan outlying how the City will boost the liveability of Karratha for seniors has been endorsed by Council.
The City of Karratha’s Aged Friendly Strategy is designed increase ability to deliver improved liveability outcomes for the roughly 700 residents over the age of 65 in the region,
As part of this, the City conducted an analysis of the current and future needs of the senior population with respect to aged care, housing, and infrastructure.
At the Council meeting, Councillors endorsed the Age Friendly Strategy 2024-2026 Implementation Plan and Monitoring Framework.
Key outcomes of the implementation plan include scheduling fitness programming for senior residents, establishing a seniors community reference group, implementing a seniors parking scheme to improve access to City Facilities and supporting the State Government to investigate options for retirement living in the City of Karratha.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said improving Karratha’s accessibility and liveability for seniors was an important step to becoming Australia’s most liveable regional City.
“We want people to stay in Karratha and this strategy will go a long way to ensuring our City remains accessible to people to live their entire lives hear,” Cr Scott said.
“We want Karratha to be Australia’s most liveable region and this strategy will allow us to improve services, and meet the needs of senior citizens so they can retire here.”
