Applications for a prestigious annual grants prize encouraging higher education in the City of Karratha community are now open.
The Walkington Award, named after the late Dr. Al Walkington Foundation Director of the Karratha College (North Regional TAFE), is now in its 42nd year and offers a $10,000 contribution to tertiary education expenses.
Dr Walkington is remembered as the Father of the Karratha College and was tasked with the early planning of a new self-governing college to its formal creation.
The prize is awarded to a local student who has not only achieved academic excellence but also contributed significantly to the community and has a goal to continue studying at a recognised educational institution.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the Walkington Award was intended to help high achieving and community minded students pursue further study.
“The Walkington Award recognises a deserving student who has excelled academically while making extensive contributions to the local community and I would encourage all eligible young people to seriously consider applying for this year’s Award,” Cr Scott said.
“The application process itself is a great opportunity for young people to look back and take stock of the hard work and achievements they have made ahead of their next stage of education and the exciting challenges this brings.”
The Walkington Award is open to Year 12 students with a full ATAR program, who either reside or whose parents reside in the City of Karratha.
Applications close 5pm 29 August, for more information head to Walkington Award | City of Karratha
