Wickham Lions Park Planting Project

The City of Karratha and Rio Tinto, through the community partnership agreement, delivered the Wickham Lions Park Planting Project on Thursday, 9 October, with support from the team at the Swans Districts Football Club - Roebourne.

Together, we worked alongside local youth and families to plant five Eucalyptus victrix trees and more than 80 water-efficient shrubs. Participants also enjoyed a creative corner, where their paintings will be turned into artwork for the Lions Park basketball backboard - the final stage of this project, set for installation by December 2025.

As part of the Rio Tinto-funded upgrades, a new water fountain was installed and the half-court basketball surface was repainted. Ahead of the planting day, the gardens were upgraded with new reticulation, mulching, an access pathway for foot traffic, cracker dust feature areas and new rock work.

The Wickham Lions Park Planting Project aims to improve the park’s functionality, amenity and safety, creating a more inviting space for local community to enjoy.
