The City of Karratha is replacing the ageing culvert on Bayview Road, east of Cattrall Park in Pegs Creek.
Bayview Road is an important local connection for residents, schools, park users and commuters. Replacing the culvert will help maintain safe and reliable drainage infrastructure and support the long-term condition of the road.
Works include:
- Removal of the existing culvert
- Installation of new, fit-for-purpose drainage infrastructure
- Road reconstruction and reinstatement following installation
- Associated traffic management and safety measures
Traffic impacts
To allow the works to be completed safely, a small section of Bayview Road between Hyde Road and Cattrall Park will be subject to a full road closure between 25 September to 21 October 2026.
During this time, all traffic will be diverted via Dampier Road. Road users, particularly around nearby schools, should expect increased traffic and are encouraged to allow additional travel time.
From 21 October to 2 November 2026, the affected section will reopen with a single lane closure in place while the remaining works are completed. Traffic management will remain on site, and road users should expect reduced speeds and short delays.

Why does Bayview Road need to be closed?
The existing culvert is ageing and must be replaced for safety and long-term road reliability. A full closure is required to safely complete the work and protect both workers and road users.
How long will the closure last?

What are the detour routes?
All traffic will be redirected via Dampier Road. Signage will be in place to guide drivers safely around the closure.
Will this affect school drop-offs and pick-ups?
Yes, traffic near Pegs Creek schools may increase. Please allow extra travel time and follow detour signage to ensure student safety.
Will properties, businesses and Cattrall Park be accessible?
All properties, businesses and Cattrall Park will remain open and accessible.
Will the road be open at night or on weekends?
Bayview Road will remain closed for the duration of the works, 24/7, to allow safe and efficient construction.
Why can’t the work be done in stages to keep the road open?
Due to the location and nature of the culvert replacement, partial access is not safe. A full closure ensures the work can be done safely and completed on time.
Will there be updates during the project?
Yes, The City will provide regular updates on progress via Facebook and the City website.
Why can't the dirt track around that section of Bayview Road be open to accommodate vehicle traffic?
The unsealed track around the work area is not a suitable alternative route for general traffic, as it is not designed or maintained to operate as a public road or accommodate increased traffic volumes safely. Using the designated detour also helps keep vehicles clear of the construction area and provides a safer, more reliable route for all road users and workers.
