A Capital works program worth nearly $80 million is at the core of the City of Karratha’s Annual Budget as it builds towards becoming Australia’s Most Liveable Regional City.
The 2026/27 Annual Budget, adopted by Council on June 30, includes a capital works program worth $77.85m
The program will see significant investment across all towns, and comprises upgrades to facilities, new infrastructure along with upgrades to parks, footpaths and kerbs.
Highlights from the capital works program includes the $4M Bathgate Road upgrade, $4.03M Kevin Richards Memorial Oval hardcourt works, and the $2M Roebourne Recreation Precinct master plan, and $1.44m Wickham South Youth Recreation Area
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the capital works program would help deliver the infrastructure and community assets needed to support a growing and thriving region.
“These projects are guided by our Council Plan and were shaped by your feedback,” Mayor Scott said.
“They will deliver the infrastructure, services and facilities our community needs today, while preparing Karratha, Dampier, Wickham, Roebourne and Point Samson for future growth.
“From roads to recreation, community facilities and public spaces, this investment will help create connected, vibrant and resilient communities across our region.
“Together, they represent another important step towards achieving our vision of Australia's most liveable regional city.”
2026/27 Capital Works Program includes:
- $13m towards the Bulgarra Housing Developments
- $10.46m to complete Housing Development - Baynton Apartments - Bajamalu
- $5.18m to complete 7 Mile Waste Cell Development Construction
- $4.05m to commence construction of KRMO Multi-Use Hardcourts and Lighting
- $4.00m to commence construction of the Bathgate Road Upgrade
- $2.48m to commence construction of the Murujuga Naitional Park Access Road (Conzinc Bay)
- $2.33m to finalise the design of the Roebourne Recreation Precinct Master Plan
- $2.16m to complete the Airport Runway Extension
- $2.09m to complete the Karratha Airport Airfield Cable & Lighting Upgrade
- $1.85m to commence construction of the Wickham Boat Beach Ramp and Jetty
- $1.75m to complete the Bayview Road Culvert Replacement
- $1.59m to complete the 26/27 Road Reseal Program
- $1.50m Karratha Leisureplex Capital works including security system upgrades, floor treatment and painting
- $1.47m Airside Upgrade including Apron lighting, reseal and drains works
- $1.44m to complete construction of the Wickham South Youth Recreation Area
- $1.22m to construct the next priorities in the Ten Year Footpath Program
- $1.11m for the Airport - Norman Road Reconstruction
- $1.05m to complete the Effluent Reuse Scheme Upgrade
