The City of Karratha is making it easier for residents to reduce household waste with the launch of a new Composting Rebate Scheme.
The program offers eligible residents a 50% rebate on approved composting systems for domestic use, including up to $80 for composting bins or worm farms, and up to $50 for bokashi bins or pet waste composters.
The Composting Rebate Scheme aims to encourage sustainable waste practices, reduce the volume of organic waste in landfill, and increase community awareness of composting’s environmental benefits.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the initiative is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing waste to landfill.
“We know that small actions at home can have a big impact across the City and this is a practical way we can help residents take simple, everyday steps towards a more sustainable future,” Cr Scott said.
“By composting at home, households can significantly cut the amount of organic waste going to landfill.
“This program not only supports our sustainability targets but also helps foster a stronger culture of environmental responsibility within our community.”
The Composting Rebate Scheme launched on Monday 20 October 2025.
