One of Australia's most celebrated contemporary plays will captivate Pilbara audiences with a powerful story of hope, resilience and identity.
The Seven Stages of Grieving, produced by the Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, will be performed at the Red Earth Arts Precinct on Saturday, 29 August.
Written by Wesley Enoch and Deborah Mailman, the acclaimed work explores the timelessness of the Dreaming, the impacts of colonisation, the journey towards reconciliation, the strength of kinship and the importance of telling your own story through a series of moving and often humorous vignettes.
Since premiering in 1995, the play has become a modern Australian classic, continuing to challenge, inspire and connect with audiences more than 30 years after its debut.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the production was an exciting opportunity for the community to experience one of Australia's most significant theatrical works.
"It's not every day we welcome a nationally acclaimed production from a powerhouse company like Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company to Karratha," Cr Scott said.
"The Seven Stages of Grieving is a deeply moving story that celebrates the strength, resilience and enduring spirit of Aboriginal Australia while encouraging audiences to reflect on our shared history and future.
"The City's vision is to become Australia's most liveable regional city, and that means creating opportunities for our community to experience outstanding arts and cultural performances without having to leave the Pilbara.
"Whether you're a regular theatre-goer or experiencing live theatre for the first time, this production promises to be thought-provoking, entertaining and unforgettable."
Performances will be held at 12pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, 29 August, at the Red Earth Arts Precinct Theatre, with no interval.
Tickets are on sale now, with prices starting from $17.50 for youth. Adult tickets are $35, concession tickets are $30 and a family of four can attend for $86.
