More than 230 people have had their say on the future of Karratha’s city centre, identifying key priorities to inform the City Centre Precinct Structure Plan.
The Karratha City Centre is central to realising and showcasing Council’s vision of liveability. The City Centre Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) will guide how the city centre grows and evolves over the next decade towards the vision. This includes planning for land use, public spaces, and the overall look and feel of the city centre.
An extensive seven-week community and stakeholder consultation program was held to better understand what the community values about the city centre and what could be improved as it grows and evolves.
A total of 233 community members participated in a range of engagement activities, identifying six key themes:
- Public realm quality, comfort and green space
- Movement, access and connectivity
- Lighting, passive surveillance and safety
- City centre role, identity and activation
- Economic activity, retail and local business
- Development feasibility, housing and delivery

The feedback received is being used by the City and project consultancy team to inform preparation of the draft PSP. The draft PSP will set a framework for the future development of the Karratha City Centre, including how land uses, movement, public spaces and development opportunities can be planned together to create a more connected and vibrant centre.
The draft PSP will be presented to Council for consideration before being advertised for public comment. It is anticipated that the draft plan will be advertised from early 2027, which will provide the community with an opportunity to review the draft plan and provide additional feedback.
