Community priorities identified through the Annual Community Survey are at the heart of the 2026/27 Annual Budget.
The Annual Community Survey highlighted a strong desire for increased youth activities and services, improved community facilities, enhanced parks and public spaces, better roads and transport infrastructure, and continued investment in events.
Recognising the importance of providing opportunities for young people to live active, connected and fulfilling lives, the City will continue progressing projects including a waterpark feasibility study, expanded arts programs, the Karratha and Wickham Bike Parks, the Wickham Youth Recreation Area and the Roebourne Recreation Precinct.
To strengthen community connections and celebrate the region's unique identity, the budget continues investment in community grants, events and cultural initiatives, including implementation of the Arts and Culture Strategy, development of an Events and Activation Strategy, and planning for a future Art Gallery and Community Centre.
Responding to community expectations for high-quality public spaces and recreation opportunities, the budget delivers increased service levels, shade provision, playground renewals, boat ramp upgrades and ongoing facility renewal works across the region.
To support safer and more efficient movement throughout the City, more than $5 million will be invested in road and footpath renewals, key upgrades such as Bathgate Road and Neilson Place, traffic safety improvements and advocacy for International Airport status.
Supporting the long-term sustainability and cleanliness of the region, the City will continue implementing its Waste Strategy through infrastructure upgrades, waste education initiatives and long-term planning for future waste management services and facilities.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the budget reflected Council's commitment to listening to the community and delivering projects that improve quality of life across the region.
“Every year our community tells us what matters most to them, and this budget demonstrates how that feedback directly influences Council's decisions and investment priorities,” Mayor Scott said.
“This budget is focused on delivering practical outcomes that improve everyday life for our residents, whether that's providing more opportunities for young people, investing in safer roads, improving parks and public spaces, supporting local events or renewing the facilities our community uses every day.”
