City of Karratha council has endorsed a proposal to provide critical development-ready land for Karratha.
At the recent council meeting, council endorsed the development proposal for stages 1 and 2 of the Mulataga Housing Estate which will deliver more than 130 lots in addition to landscaped public open spaces, drainage, and fencing.
The City has been awarded $22.1m in funding from the Federal Government’s Housing Support Program to help deliver Stage 1 works and has entered a partnership with DevelopmentWA to achieve delivery of the project.
Mulataga has capacity for 1270 residential lots and revenue generated from the first lots would support future stages ensuring a sustained pipeline of housing supply to meet the long-term needs of Karratha.
The Mulataga Land Development represents a strategic and timely initiative to address the City’s critical housing shortage by unlocking a significant supply of development-ready residential lots.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said Mulataga would provide a significant benefit in addressing the housing shortage.
“Mulataga has been one of the areas we have strongly been advocating for on behalf of the community,” Cr Scott said.
“To be able to proceed with the project, with such strong support from both DevelopmentWA and the Housing Support Program, shows the impact our efforts are having.
“Our modelling shows a current shortfall of 900 dwellings. With several major projects set to be completed in the coming years, this gap could widen to as many as 2,000 dwellings” Cr Scott said.
“Mulataga is critical in providing land supply to meet the projected demand for new housing stock in our City. With most lot sizes planned between 550 and 700 square metres, this development—alongside the ongoing Madigan Estate—will continue to offer diverse options in both size and location for those looking to build their home.”
