Draft Community Plan open for public comment

A draft plan outlying a renewed vision and strategy for the City is now open for public comment.

Council approved the draft Strategic Community Plan (SCP) 2025-2035 to be advertised for public feedback for a period of four weeks.

The SCP is the lead strategic document for the City, and outlines a decade-long shared community vision informing all Council projects, services and programs undertaken.

A review of the SCP began in March 2024 with a major community consultation initiative which saw 945 residents engaged across all the towns in the district.

This feedback formed the basis of the review and shaped a new vision for the City of Karratha to be the City of the North. Powerhouse of the Nation. A Place we are Proud to call Home.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the City was hosting a series of pop up stalls for the community to review and provide feedback on the draft plan.

“This is one of the most important documents for any local government. It guides what we do for the next decade - every project, every service, every priority,” Cr Scott said.

“There’s been a lot of work to engage with our community and develop something that truly captures local aspirations and goals. We hope this plan does just that.”

“You don’t often get the opportunity to help shape a brand-new Strategic Community Plan - usually you’re building on what’s already there. I feel privileged to be part of this process and I’m looking forward to seeing how the community responds.”
