A visionary document outlining the long-term future for the City beyond traditional local government planning horizons has been endorsed for further consultation by Council.
The Draft Karratha 2050 Vision and Plan was endorsed by Council and will now head to further strategic consultation with key stakeholders, including Traditional Owners, State and Federal Government, and industry.
Informed by a comprehensive and evidence-based methodology, the Karratha 2050 Vision and Plan establishes a strategic framework comprising six strategic goals supported by 41 objectives.
The document is intended to guide advocacy, investment decisions and align the priorities of government, industry, Traditional Owners and the community over the next 25 years.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the draft vision was an opportunity to define the future of Karratha and create a shared roadmap for the region.
"This document is centred on our community and how we can support residents, local businesses and ensure Karratha continues its journey towards becoming Australia's most liveable regional city.
"Having a long-term vision means we can work collaboratively with all levels of government, Traditional Owners, industry and the community to achieve shared outcomes that will benefit current and future generations.
"Karratha has enormous potential to be Australia's premier northern city, but achieving that requires a coordinated approach and a clear vision for where we want to be by 2050.
"This next phase of consultation is an important opportunity to ensure the Vision reflects the aspirations and priorities of those who will help shape our region's future."
Feedback received during the next stage of consultation will be considered and incorporated into the Vision and Plan where appropriate.
The final Karratha 2050 Vision and Plan will then be presented to Council for adoption as the City's long-term strategic vision for Karratha through to 2050.
