Owner-occupiers across the City of Karratha will receive a $100 Buy Local voucher as part of a new initiative aimed at recognising long-term residents and supporting local businesses.
The Christmas Resident Recognition and Local Business Support initiative will provide eligible owner-occupied properties with a $100 Buy Local voucher to spend with participating local businesses.
The program seeks to recognise the long-term commitment made by owner-occupiers while encouraging residents to spend locally during the summer period.
Owner occupier households account for approximately 26% of residential properties within the City of Karratha and represent a significant proportion of residents who have chosen to make Karratha their long-term home.
The initiative feeds into wider residential support program offered by the City. This includes; 20% discount on Aquatics memberships and services and discounted REAP tickets.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the initiative provided an opportunity to recognise owner-occupiers while delivering a direct benefit to local businesses.
“We acknowledge the contribution homeowners make to the stability and sustainability of our community,” Mayor Scott said.
“This is an opportunity to recognise that commitment while also supporting local businesses during a period when economic activity can traditionally be lower.
“By encouraging residents to spend their voucher locally, the program will keep that expenditure within our local economy and provide a direct benefit to local businesses.
“Council will continue to look for practical ways it can support both residents and businesses and strengthen the community we all call home.”
