Plastic Country to screen in Karratha for National Recycling Week

The City of Karratha is inviting the community to a free screening of the thought-provoking documentary The Plastic Country.

The Plastic Country follows Kal Glaznig, a former water polo athlete turned ocean advocate, who decided to test his body for plastic-associated chemicals, and was shockingly alarmed by the results.

What follows is a two-year journey across the country, from East Arnhem Land to Parliament House, as Glaznig explores how plastic pollution is infiltrating ecosystems, politics, and human health.

The film, which features an Academy Award-winning sound team and a soundtrack by First Nations band King Stingray, will be shown at the Red Earth Arts Precinct on 9 November.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the screening was an opportunity to consider the impact of everyday waste.

“National Recycling Week is a great opportunity to think about the waste we produce every day and the small changes we can make to reduce it.

“The Plastic Country looks at an issue that affects our environment and communities, and I encourage residents to come along, see the film and take part in the conversation.

“Events like this are a great way to learn something new and think about how we can all play a part in keeping Karratha clean and sustainable.”

The Plastic Country is screening for free at REAP as part of National Recycling Week.
