City of Karratha residents are encouraged to prepare for cyclone season with the City’s annual pre-cyclone verge collection returning this September.
This initiative is an opportunity for residents to prepare their yard ahead of cyclone season and remove potentially hazardous green waste.
From 21 September, pre-cyclone season verge side collection will be conducted in a staggered approach across our five towns over three weeks.
All green waste to be placed on the verge side no earlier than two weeks prior and no later than the day before collection service starts.
Green waste is collected, reused, and processed into mulch and soil conditioner.
City of Karratha Deputy Mayor Jodie Swaffer said the annual verge collection was an important part of cyclone preparedness for households across the region.
“The pre-cyclone verge collection is a simple way for residents to prepare their homes while also helping keep our community safe during the cyclone season,” Deputy Mayor Swaffer said.
“We know how dangerous cyclones can be, and it is important we ensure our yards are as prepared as possible as we head into this year's cyclone season.
“It’s also great to see the collected green waste given a second life, being processed into useful products such as mulch and soil conditioner rather than going to landfill.
“I encourage residents to check their collection dates and make sure their green waste is placed on the verge within the required timeframe.”
