Preferred concept design chosen for new driving range

A new driving range at the Karratha Golf Course is a step closer after Council endorsed the preferred concept design.

The preferred design of the new Karratha Golf Course Driving Range was endorsed by Council at the recent meeting and will now proceed to the detailed design stage

A business case will be developed before Council makes a final investment decision, including consideration of opportunities to manage costs and stage delivery.

The proposed driving range would be relocated adjacent to the existing chipping and putting greens, providing a consolidated practice area close to the clubhouse and car parking.

Featuring 20 synthetic turf tee bays, secure outdoor seating and a hard shade structure, the range has been developed with consideration of Golf Australia’s Australian Golf Facility Guidelines.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the final concept would complement the existing facility.

“The driving range is an important part of a modern golf facility, and this concept gives us an opportunity to significantly improve what is currently available at Karratha Golf Course,” Mayor Scott said.

“By bringing the driving range alongside the existing chipping and putting greens, we can create a more cohesive practice area with facility provision in keeping with a high standard of regional facility.

“As part of the motion, we will also be investigating opportunities for a staged delivery of the driving range, allowing us to deliver the project over time while managing project costs and available funding.

“This is an important next step, but there is still work to do before Council considers any final investment decision. We need to work through the cultural heritage and environmental requirements for the site and determine the most appropriate operating model for the facility.”
