Ready Set Grow 2024 winners announced

The City of Karratha’s best gardens 2024 have been revealed with the winners of the Ready Set Grow competition announced. 

The Ready Set Grow competition was introduced in 2020 to increase aware and community participation in crime prevention and community safety initiatives. 

This year’s contest saw entries across several categories including; Mayor’s Best Overall Garden Best use of Small Space, and Waterwise Garden. 

Dianne Lockett was announced as the winner of the Mayor’s Best Overall Garden and the overall winner of the Ready Set Grow competition.  

The Judges described the winner as being a breathtaking tropical haven. 

“This garden truly resembles the essence of paradise with its lush, established plants and expansive layout,” they said.  

“The way the tropical plants wrap around the house creates a picture that makes you want to keep wandering along the paths.” 

Among other winners was Angela Pettinger for Best Waterwise Garden, while Jordan Ralph took out Best Kid Friendly Garden and Leanne North won Best Veggie Garden. 

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said this year was full of fantastic entries. 

“Its great to see so many beautiful and unique gardens enter into the competition every year,” Cr Scott said. 

“ I was incredibly impressed with this years winners especially our Overall Garden Winner Dianne Lockett. 

“It’s a stunning testament to tropical beauty and an absolute gem. Thank you to all who entered.” 

This year’s Ready Set Grow Garden Competition was supported by Rio Tinto, Woodside and their Northwest Shelf Partners and Water Corporation.

Best Use of Small Space

Best Kid-friendly Garden

Best Rental Property 
Winner: Dot Abbott, Warambie Crescent, Karratha 
Highly Commended, Kite Look, Nickol 

Best Before and After 
Winner: Tony Churchill, Tue Place Millers Well 
Highly Recommended: Freyja Lucas, Mujira Ramble, Baynton 

Best Business/Not for Profit Garden 
Winner:  headspace Karratha, Hillview Road Karratha 
Highly Recommended: Karratha Central Apartments, Warambie Road Karratha 

Best Open Garden: 
Winner:  John and Kim Escott, Porter Court, Millars Well 
Highly Recommended:  Nadia Smith, Buchanan Circuit, Baynton 

Best Waterwise Garden
