Serafina Amayah Tawse has taken out the overall prize at the Cossack Art Awards Children’s Art Award’s.
Announced on Sunday, 9 August at the Fortescue Children’s Art Day, the work titled At Last was described by the judges as demonstrating a level of ability and skill beyond their years.
“The obvious talent of this artist made this piece difficult to overlook. It is visually outstanding, with a compelling story that draws the viewer in,” the judges said.
Meanwhile, Ruby Chester was named the 5-8 year's winner, Scarlotte Moore won the 9-11 years category and in the 12-15 years category, Arabella Azhar was named the winner.
The People’s Choice award was also announced, with Melissa Loan’s oil painting The Slow Reveal. Her work captured the quiet transformation of light across the Gnaraloo landscape.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the quality of the works entered this year highlighted the strength and diversity of artistic talent across the region.
“I’d like to congratulate all of our winners and highly commended artists, as well as our People’s Choice winner,” Mayor Scott said.
“The Children’s Art Awards showcase how strong the artistic talent of our region truly is, with the entered works continuing to impress with their creativity, imagination and quality.
“It’s fantastic to see so many young artists getting involved and having the opportunity to share their work with the community.
“Thank you to everyone who has entered and participated in this year’s Cossack Art Awards. Your creativity and enthusiasm help make this such a special event on our regional calendar.”
The Children’s Art Award and Cossack Art Award winning and highly commended works will be on display at the Out of Cossack Exhibition at the Red Earth Arts Precinct from September 10. The Exhibition will also feature works created by the Artist-in-Residence Jenna Pickering during her residency.
