A concept design that would bolster youth recreation facilities in Wickham will now move to detailed design.
Wickham South Park is an established recreational area that includes a grassed oval, walking path, playground and shade structures. Proposed future amenities aim to enhance youth focused recreational infrastructure and encourage greater community activation.
The refined concept includes a range of recreational features such as a 3x3 basketball court, bouldering area, hit-up wall, and supporting amenities, designed to meet the needs of Wickham youth and the broader community. In response to community feedback, the inclusion of a public toilet facility will also be considered in the next phase of design development.
Council approved the finalised concept design and will now proceed with the detailed design stage.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said he was excited for the project to progress to detailed design.
“From talking to the Wickham community, we know there is a need for the addition of a youth recreation area,” Cr Scott said.
“The concept design has been heavily influenced by community feedback and I look forward to the project progressing to detailed design.”
This project is a collaborative community initiative supported by Rio Tinto Community Partnership Agreement funding to enhance recreational opportunities in Wickham South Park.
